Lay readers candidates to be commissioned after a successful three-day training

In preparation for commissioning of Lay ministers later in the month of June, the ACK Diocese of Butere organised for a three day’s training in each of the two archdeaconries: Mulwanda and Buchenya, beginning with Mulwanda on 2nd – 4th June, 2026.   The program equipped participants with biblical, theological, leadership, and practical ministry skills essential for effective service in the Church.

The training was facilitated by experienced tutors: Rev. Celestine taught Bible Survey, Canon Matati covered Anglicanism, Canon Silas Hopillo addressed Administration, Rev. Isanda taught Stewardship, and Rev. Musungu facilitated sessions on Pastoral Care. The candidates were equipped with knowledge and skills in Scripture, Anglican doctrine, church leadership, resource management, and pastoral ministry.

A key highlight was the visit by Bishop Okeno, who encouraged the candidates to remain ensure they understand the calling and the church organization, to which they intend to serve. She emphasized the vital role of Lay Readers in evangelism, discipleship, teaching, and supporting the Church’s mission.

The training marked an important milestone in preparing the candidates for ministry and reaffirmed the Diocese’s commitment to nurturing competent and dedicated church leaders for effective service in God’s Kingdom.
