Bishop Okeno calls for Servant Leadership and Integrity In Schools

ACK St. John’s Manyala Senior School recently hosted an induction ceremony for its new principal, Mr. Walter Opondo, officiated by Bishop Rose Okeno of the Anglican Church of Kenya.

During the event, Deputy Principal Mr. Ashindu Malaba highlighted the school’s advancements since 2023, noting significant improvements in discipline and academic performance. He reported that the school currently employed 24 teachers, including 17 from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), 3 from the Board of Management (B.O.M), and 4 attachées from Kibabii University. Mr. Malaba also celebrated the milestone achievement of sending 15 students to university for the first time last year.

The ceremony was attended by education officials and principals from neighboring schools, including Mr. Gabriel Ogano, the Sub-County Director of Education for Masaba in Kisii County who praised Bishop Okeno for her support of Anglican-sponsored schools through such induction services.                                                                                          

The event was also attended by several principals and deputy principals from neighboring schools, including Mr. John Ongoma, Deputy Principal of Manyala Comprehensive School; Mr. Osinga, Deputy Principal of Mabole Boys Senior School; Mrs. Alice Mahedi, Principal of Mukoye Girls; Dr. Waseka, Principal of Ibokolo Senior School; Mr. Clement Eyinda, Principal of Masaba Senior School; Mr. Benson Ogeda, Principal of Mabole Boys; and Mr. Laban Momanyi, Principal of Kholera Boys High School.

In her sermon, drawn from Acts 6:1–6, Bishop Okeno emphasized the importance of servant leadership, teamwork, mentorship, integrity, and effective organization. She urged leaders to foster a conducive learning environment, empower others through mentorship, delegate responsibilities judiciously, and maintain a focus on serving society. She described Mr. Opondo as a dedicated leader who, with the necessary support, is poised to guide the school to greater achievements.
