The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Butere’s fourth bishop, Rose Okeno, graciously acknowledged the Butere Boys High School Alumni Association for their dedication in compiling the first edition of the school’s history book. Bishop Okeno emphasized the significant contributions of Butere Boys High School alumni in various fields, making the documentation of its history both relevant and timely.
During the book launch event held at the school grounds on Friday afternoon, a statement on behalf of Bishop Okeno was delivered by the Provost of the ACK St. Luke’s Cathedral, The Very Rev. Moses Omoke. The bishop highlighted the indispensable role played by early missionaries such as Archdeacon Walter Chadwick, Archdeacon Walter Edwin Owen, and Lee Appleby of the Church Missionary Society in England in shaping the history of Butere Boys High School.
Bishop Okeno, who penned the foreword of the launched book, urged other schools, churches, and public institutions to follow suit in documenting their histories for future generations. The book launch was attended by Kakamega County Governor Fenandes Barasa, who encouraged the school to distribute copies of the book to various libraries.
Governor Barasa also challenged the school’s alumni group to come together and raise funds for a new school bus, a cause he pledged to support financially. This commitment came in response to the school’s Chief Principal Habil Malika’s appeal for a new bus to replace the current one facing mechanical issues.
Accompanying the Provost from the diocese were the Diocesan Education Secretary Rev. Canon Robert Matati, Bishop’s Personal Assistant Juliet Isanda, and the school’s chaplain Rev. Sammy Atsali.
