Kakamega County Launches Chick Farming Project to Empower Widows and Youth in Butere

Representatives from Kakamega County gathered at Butere Agricultural Farm to officially launch a chick farming project at Eshirembe Village, located in Butere Sub county.

The initiative aims to improve livelihoods by economically empowering widows and young people through sustainable poultry farming. The project is part of the county government’s broader efforts to promote food security, create income-generating opportunities, and strengthen community resilience.
Speaking during the launch, MU Coordinator Rev. Josephine Mombo expressed gratitude to the county leadership and the entire government for supporting vulnerable groups within the community. She thanked the governor and relevant departments for prioritizing widows and youth as key beneficiaries of the project, noting that the initiative would go a long way in restoring hope, dignity, and self-reliance among families.

Rev. Mombo further emphasized that chick farming is a practical and sustainable venture that can quickly translate into improved household incomes, better nutrition, and long-term economic stability. She encouraged beneficiaries to embrace the project wholeheartedly and manage it responsibly for maximum impact.
