Bishop Rose Okeno of the ACK Butere Diocese has continued her heartfelt call to Christians, urging them to place their hope and trust in God to experience His miraculous works. She emphasized that God is the ultimate source of comfort and encouraged the faithful to maintain their focus on Him.
During the burial service for the late Evangelist (Retired) Phylis Anyango Makunda, held on Saturday afternoon in Eshibanga village in Butere Sub-county, Bishop Okeno drew inspiration from Isaiah 35, a powerful message of hope, comfort, and restoration. In this passage, the faithful are reminded that a remnant will traverse the holy road. God paves a path through our deserts and remains steadfast in accompanying us on our journey toward healing—physically, emotionally, spiritually, and economically, she explained.
The Bishop further noted that God not only restores but also transforms our grief into joy and our suffering into laughter. “For those who place their trust in God, suffering is not a permanent state; rather, it is a temporary chapter in a larger narrative of hope and renewal,” she added.

In her eulogy for the late Evangelist, who was born in 1931, Bishop Okeno reminded the congregation of the late Evangelist’s spirit of thanksgiving and her readiness to glorify God in all circumstances. The Bishop also recalled the foundational role she played in nurturing their early Christian lives before they were confirmed by the late Bishop James Mundia.
Evangelist Phylis Anyango Makunda was married to the late Aggrey Makunda and passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the age of 94.
