Bee Farming project launched at Emulunya farm on Wednesday, May 20, 2026

Anglican Church of Kenya Diocese of Butere officially launched a Bee Farming project at St. Mary’s Emulunya Farm in a service led by the Very Rev. Moses Omoke. The project aims to promote sustainable development and support the economic growth of the community and the Diocese.

Pastor Benjaline Akeng’a, the project contractor, emphasized the importance of Bee Farming in Western Kenya, noting that bees play a key role in pollination and honey production. She encouraged the planting of flowering crops, provision of water, and proper care of the environment to support the bees, adding that the first harvest is expected after about three months.

Drawing from Proverbs 24:13, Rev. Omoke noted that the project began as a vision that has now become a reality through planning and action. Under the theme, “Small diligent efforts done in unity yield sweet and abundant rewards,” he encouraged unity, hard work, and commitment in development projects, comparing the teamwork of bees to the cooperation needed in society to achieve lasting success.

The congregation also expressed gratitude to Bishop Rose Okeno for her visionary leadership and continued support for development initiatives within the Diocese. The Bee Farming project was described as one of the transformative programs aimed at empowering communities economically, promoting environmental conservation, and encouraging self-reliance.

The launch also coincided with the International Bee Farming Commemoration Day, highlighting the importance of Bee Farming in sustainable livelihoods and environmental stewardship. and self-reliance.
