The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Butere, in partnership with St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in the USA, has initiated a water drilling project to benefit the local community. This initiative aims to provide easier access to water, particularly for young girls and widows, reducing the need to travel long distances to fetch water from streams.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in Ebuhang’a village, Eshibeye, presided over by The Very Rev. Moses Omoke, Provost at ACK St. Luke’s Cathedral. He urged the community to diligently maintain the water project upon its completion. Drawing inspiration from Exodus 17, he encouraged the community to view Jesus Christ as the spiritual rock providing water sustenance.
Rev. Elisham Nyamwata, the project coordinator, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the challenges faced by women due to the lack of clean water. He expressed gratitude to St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church for their generous partnership with the ACK Diocese of Butere in funding the project. Rev. Nyamwata assured the community that the contractor would complete the project within a month, allowing residents to begin accessing piped water.
The service was hosted by the Archdeacon emeritus Rev. Fredrick Nyamwata and attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Edwin Amira, the Diocesan Honorary Treasurer; Fredrick Okello, the Diocesan Finance and Property Officer; Grace Ingabo, the Bishop’s Personal Assistant; and Peter Ambenje, Chairperson of the Water Ad-hoc Committee, along with many community members.
