The atmosphere was vibrant and celebratory as congregants gathered at ACK St. John’s Manyala Parish in Butere sub-county for a joint Sunday service honoring one of their own, Leonid Ashindu, who was recognized as a national hero by the Government of Kenya.
Ashindu, a commissioner at the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, received this prestigious accolade in the Scholarship, Professional, and Research category for 2025. His recognition stems from his commitment to championing ethics, professional development, and youth mentorship programs. Additionally, he was acknowledged for his contributions to engineering technology and infrastructure development.
Addressing the congregation, Ashindu highlighted how his expertise in construction engineering, occupational safety, procurement, and policy implementation has established him as a trusted figure in the built environment sector.

Beyond his role at the SRC, Ashindu is a prominent leader within Kenya’s professional community, serving as the Chairperson of the Institute of Clerks of Works of Kenya (ICPAK) and the First Vice Chairperson of the Association of Professional Societies in East Africa (APSEA).
Ashindu expressed gratitude to the ACK Diocese of Butere, under the leadership of the Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, for their pastoral support, which he credits for his professional achievements. He pledged to continue collaborating with the church to further its development goals.

The service was officiated by Mabole Vicar Rev. Fredrick Akali, who stood in for Rev. Sammy Atsali, currently abroad on mission work.
