The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Butere, under the leadership of Bishop Rose Okeno, has urged a group of widows who have benefited from the poultry project to diligently care for the chicks they have received from the diocese.
Bishop Rose emphasized that the project is designed to improve the livelihoods of widows and encouraged them to adhere to the guidelines they have been provided with for raising the chicks.
During the distribution of chicks to the widows at the ACK St. Luke’s Cathedral on Tuesday afternoon, the Right Reverend Okeno highlighted that the widows’ chicken project is a key component of the Diocesan strategy to combat poverty among widows in the diocese.
Furthermore, Bishop Rose acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the ACK Diocese of Butere, Family Transformation Ministry, and Haven of Rest in making the project possible, with the shared goal of positively impacting people’s lives.
She noted that the program, which has been ongoing for the past three years and initially targeted single women and female clergy before focusing on widows, aims to empower widows who have historically faced oppression.

Bishop Rose expressed gratitude to Bishop Julius and Pastor Benjaline Akenga of Haven of Rest for their dedication in ensuring the smooth operation of the program.
Pastor Benjaline Akenga, drawing inspiration from Genesis chapter 12, encouraged the widows to nurture the program effectively so that they can become a source of blessings to others. She pledged to monitor their progress closely.

Both Bishop Rose and Pastor Benjaline called upon potential partners to join with them to expand the reach of the program and impact the lives of more widows in the diocese
