Excitement and joy filled the air as twenty-seven Canon Awori Garment Making Project trainees graduated on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the ACK St. Luke’s Cathedral in Butere. The graduation ceremony celebrated the success of two cohorts of trainees who had excelled in tailoring and dressmaking.

Sospeter Nyabola, the projects coordinator, praised the trainees for their commitment to their studies and their unwavering determination to receive top-notch training. He urged the graduates to serve as ambassadors for the project by showcasing the skills they had acquired at the ACK Diocese of Butere.

Dressed in elegant dark blue and purple gowns with matching graduation caps, the graduates looked poised and ready to seize the opportunities awaiting them in the world of dressmaking.

Violet Mwale, the Deputy Principal of Academics at the Butere Technical Training Institute, graced the event as the chief guest. She encouraged the graduates to consider enrolling in artisan courses to further hone their skills and take advantage of government funding opportunities.

Mrs. Mwale also invited them to explore the government-sponsored courses available at her institution, expressing gratitude to Bishop Rose Okeno for introducing tailoring courses to the Diocese of Butere.

Bishop Okeno reminded the graduates to adhere to the diocesan compass verse, stressing the importance of building upon the foundation they had established as they prepared to serve the community.

She underscored the project’s mission of impacting lives and shaping characters, a sentiment echoed by the clergy members of the ACK Butere Diocese in attendance.

The top two graduates, Caroline Oloo and Lorrent Ali, who excelled with distinction, were presented with sewing machines to jumpstart their careers in dressmaking and tailoring. The diocese also generously donated a sewing machine to the Butere Technical Training Institute, further supporting the growth of the program.

The Canon Awori Garment Making Project is progressing into an exciting new phase of production, poised to make a significant impact on the lives of many individuals.

The vision of Canon Awori Garment is to economically empower vulnerable populations, aligning with the diocesan mission of positively influencing society. This project represents a unique opportunity to uplift and support those in need, creating a ripple effect of positive change in the community.
