In a heartwarming collaboration, the Diocese of Butere, in partnership with the County governments of Kakamega and Kisumu, along with Done Amolo Memorial Kids Ark, hosted “Sickle Cell Awareness Day” at St. Luke’s Cathedral grounds. The event, inaugurated by the Diocesan Bishop, was graced by the presence of Her Excellency Dorothy Nyongโo, the First Lady of Kisumu County, and Her Excellency Prof Janet Kassily Barasa, the First Lady of Kakamega County. It featured a crucial blood donation exercise, with community members generously giving the gift of life to support over 100 sickle cell patients in Khwisero and Butere sub-counties. Informative sessions and touching personal stories shed light on the challenges of sickle cell disease, fostering community understanding and unity. This event not only raised awareness but also created a lasting network of support, proving that together, a community can be a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable among them.
