ACK Diocese of Butere has commenced a three-day Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) training, bringing together clergy, evangelists, lay readers and participants from various religious backgrounds.
Officially opening the training, the Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno reflected on the Unboxing the Law initiative launched last year and emphasized the importance of Alternative Justice Systems in promoting access to justice, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence within communities.
The training is facilitated by a team from the National Alternative Justice Systems (AJS), led by Prof. Steve Ouma Akoth, Vice Chair of NaSCI-AJS. Mrs. Faith Koila introduced participants to AJS, its imperatives and key terminologies. Prof. Akoth took participants through the multimedia approach to access to justice in Kenya and the imperatives of AJS, while Hon. Rehema Masha from the ADR/AJS Unit guided participants through the legal frameworks governing Alternative Justice Systems.
The training aims to equip church leaders with practical knowledge to champion community-based justice and peaceful conflict resolution.
