The ACK Diocese of Butere, through the Women Ministry in partnership with the Ministry of Health – Butere Sub-County, held a free medical camp and women empowerment training at St. Luke’s Cathedral Grounds in commemoration of Mary Sumner, the founder of the Mothers’ Union, whose legacy is celebrated worldwide.
The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno welcomed Hon. Harriet Chiggai, the President’s Special Advisor on Women’s Rights and the main sponsor of the medical camp, together with delegates from the Office of the President. Also present were medical partners from Neptune Health Care (NHC), St. Luke’s Health Care, Cherangany Hospital, Tophill Healthcare, Namasoli Health Center and Butere Level IV Hospital, whose collaboration made the outreach possible.
In her message, Bishop Rose reflected on the biblical account of the woman who suffered from bleeding for twelve years, emphasizing that while healthcare addresses physical needs, God remains the ultimate source of healing, restoration, and hope.
The event also featured women empowerment training, equipping participants with practical life skills and encouraging them to become agents of positive change in their families and communities. The medical camp attracted a large number of community members, demonstrating the Diocese’s commitment to promoting health, faith, and holistic community empowerment.
The free medical camp continues tomorrow, running concurrently with a thanksgiving service, as the Diocese continues its mission of serving the community through holistic ministry.
