Bishop Rose poses for a photo after a Layreaders and Evangelists commissioning on 25 June, 2026
ACK Diocese of Butere celebrated a significant milestone in its mission and ministry with the commissioning of 260 Lay Readers and Evangelists during a vibrant and spiritually enriching service that drew an overwhelmingly large congregation.
The solemn occasion was presided over by the Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, who led the congregation in worship and reflection. In her sermon, based on Isaiah 6:1–8, Bishop Okeno challenged the newly commissioned ministers to embrace God’s call with humility, obedience, and unwavering commitment, echoing the prophetic response, “Here I am; send me.”
She underscored the vital role that Lay Readers and Evangelists play in the life of the Church, particularly in nurturing faith at the grassroots level, spreading the Gospel, and supporting ordained clergy in pastoral ministry. She encouraged them to serve faithfully, remain anchored in prayer and Scripture, and exemplify Christ in their daily lives and communities.
The commissioning service brought together clergy, diocesan leaders, family members, and faithful from across the Diocese. A remarkably large congregation gathered to witness and celebrate the successful commissioning of their loved ones, creating an atmosphere of joy, thanksgiving, and spiritual unity.

Through prayers and the laying on of hands, the 260 Lay Readers and Evangelists were formally set apart for ministry, affirming the Diocese’s commitment to strengthening evangelism and discipleship.
This event served as a powerful testament to the growth and vibrancy of the ACK Diocese of Butere, as well as its dedication to equipping and empowering lay leadership for effective mission both within the Church and in the wider society.
