The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno officially inaugurated a community water project in Lunyu Village, Chimoi Sub-county, marking a pivotal advancement in enhancing access to clean and safe water for local residents. This initiative was generously funded by St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church (USA) in collaboration with the ACK Diocese of Butere.
The Lunyu community warmly received Bishop Okeno, who was accompanied by members of the Diocesan staff, expressing profound gratitude for this transformative project anticipated to improve livelihoods and elevate health standards in the region.
During the launch, project Coordinator Rev. Elisham urged residents to collectively safeguard the facility, ensuring it fulfills its purpose of benefiting the entire community. He stressed the importance of proper maintenance and prudent use of the resource to secure its availability for future generations.
Bishop Okeno, drawing from John 4:7–15, reflected on Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well, highlighting that just as water is vital for physical sustenance, Christ offers the living water that fulfills humanity’s spiritual needs. She challenged Christians to pursue both physical and spiritual transformation, emphasizing that development projects should be accompanied by nurturing a strong relationship with God.

She encouraged the community to embrace unity, stewardship, and gratitude, noting that the water project exemplifies God’s love manifested through partnerships and acts of generosity. She further urged residents to use the facility responsibly, ensuring that every household benefits from the provision of clean water.
The launch was celebrated as a significant achievement for the Lunyu community and a testament to the positive impact of collaboration between local communities, the Diocese, and international partners.
