The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Butere concluded its 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence with a compelling appeal for community solidarity in combating digital violence against women and girls. The Diocesan Administrative Secretary, Rev. Canon Silas Hopillo, led a delegation to the office of the Butere Sub-County Police Commandant, where they engaged in fellowship with police officers and discussed collaborative strategies to eradicate violence.
Rev. Canon Silas drew inspiration from Ecclesiastes 7:29, urging the congregation to adhere to God’s intended purpose of righteousness and actions that are pleasing to Him. He also commended the police officers for their efforts in maintaining law and order, while emphasizing the importance of ensuring justice for victims of gender-based violence.
Butere Sub-County Police Commandant Justus Njeru expressed gratitude to the ACK Diocese of Butere for its initiative in raising community awareness about gender-based violence. However, he highlighted challenges such as the lack of community cooperation, with some individuals unwilling to provide evidence and some victims reluctant to pursue legal action, thereby hindering justice process. He called upon community members to collaborate closely with security agencies to ensure that victims receive the justice they deserve.

The Diocesan delegation included the Women Ministry Coordinator, Rev. Josephine Mombo, who presented goods in kind to the police officers, expressing gratitude for their active support of Diocesan initiatives. Following the service, the Diocesan delegation proceeded to ACK St. Stephen’s Namasoli Parish to advance the campaign against gender-based violence (GBV) to the Men’s Ministry delegates attending their final 2025 diocesan rally. Under the leadership of their coordinator, Rev. Steve Onani, the men committed to taking a leading role in eradicating violence within the community. Furthermore, they pledged to serve as ambassadors of peace and to ensure that victims of GBV receive justice.
Wednesday’s events were the climax of ACK Diocese of Butere’s 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence initiative, which was launched by Bishop Rose Okeno on November 25, 2025, calling on the church to create a safe space for young girls and widows. The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno appreciated all partners in the initiative that saw the campaign against GBV spread to all stakeholders in the community.
