The ACK Diocese of Butere has intensified its campaign against gender-based violence, urging young girls to remain vigilant and report any inappropriate advances. Rev. Josephine Mombo, the Diocesan Women Ministry Coordinator, emphasized that there is no tolerance for the molestation of young girls and encouraged them to unite and express their concerns if they encounter such situations.
Rev. Mombo expressed her alarm over the fact that many cases of gender-based violence are perpetrated by relatives, with some girls being lured into vulnerable situations through gifts. She made these remarks during a sensitization program held at ACK St. Stephen’s Inaya Parish, aimed at equipping young girls with the knowledge and skills to combat and address violence.
Her message was reinforced by GBV activist Brenda Dorin Kusa, who urged the girls to speak out about their challenges rather than suffer in silence. Dorin also cautioned the young girls against accepting gifts from unknown individuals with potentially harmful intentions. The event was attended by Archdeacon Ven Canon Peter Andere, Rev. Capt. Florence Aseka, Rev. Emily Mettah, Diocesan KAYO Coordinator Fred Akali, and many others.

This program is part of the ACK Diocese of Butere’s 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence initiative, which was launched by Bishop Rose Okeno on November 25, 2025 calling on the church to create a safe space for young girls and widows.
