The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Butere has advanced its empowerment initiative for widows by distributing chicks to widow groups across various parishes. This project is designed to enhance their living standards. Widows from parishes within the Mulwanda Archdeaconry received chicks for their parish projects, with a directive to nurture and expand their poultry ventures.

Prior to receiving the chicks, the widows participated in a comprehensive training session focused on poultry care, including nutrition, housing, and vaccination protocols. The Women’s Ministry Coordinator, Rev. Josephine Mombo, urged the widows to dedicate themselves to the project with the goal of improving their livelihoods.

Addressing the gathering at St. Stephen’s Mulwanda Parish following the training and distribution, she emphasized the importance of responsible poultry rearing as a means of stewarding God’s creation. Her message was supported by the Mulwanda Archdeacon, Ven. Canon Peter Andere, who encouraged the widows to intensify their efforts in the project to attract further donor support.

The chicks were generously donated two weeks ago by the Kakamega County Government and were received by the Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno. She expressed gratitude to the county for their compassionate gesture and called upon other benefactors to support the diocesan programs aimed at uplifting the lives of the underprivileged in society.
