Bishop Rose Okeno is urging young people to actively participate in economic activities that can transform their lives, rather than relying solely on traditional white-collar job opportunities. She observed that many graduates are struggling to find employment and encouraged them to explore the various available avenues for income generation.
The Bishop emphasized the importance of living a dignified life by creating opportunities rather than waiting for employment. She specifically highlighted the agricultural sector as a promising field for youth engagement, particularly in vegetable farming and poultry rearing. “Let us open our minds to the resources that God has provided us, especially in the Western Kenya region,” she stated.
She made these remarks during a meeting with youth at ACK St. Stephens Shiatsala parish on Wednesday afternoon in the company of her guests, Dr. Prince Singh and his wife Atoholi from India, who are visiting the ACK diocese of Butere.

Dr. Prince Singh expressed his commitment to supporting youth programs and encouraged the young attendees to pursue their dreams in agriculture. He underscored the importance of both spiritual and economic empowerment as essential for individuals to effectively support their families and communities. He asserted that poverty should not be viewed as a virtue or embraced; rather, it is imperative to strive for a future where everyone has access to sufficient food and good health.
Through his organization, Way Out, Dr. Prince committed to collaborating closely with the ACK Diocese of Butere to bolster youth initiatives. Their tour commenced at St. Stephen’s Mulwanda, where they engaged with members of BUCODET, followed by a meeting with local youth at Shiatsala. The group then proceeded to St. Stephen’s Inaya to observe a goat-rearing project, concluding their visit with a tour of a pig-rearing project in Eshitoyi parish.
Accompanying Bishop Rose and her guests were Ven. Daniel Inyangala, the Archdeacon of Buchenya, and Rev. Fred Akali, the youth coordinator, along with other parish vicars. Bishop Rose Okeno and Dr. Prince are scheduled to meet with principals of ACK-sponsored schools for a fellowship on the morning of Thursday, September 3, 2025.
