The Bishop of the ACK Diocese of Butere, the Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, has urged security agencies in the Butere and Khwisero sub-counties to enhance their vigilance in light of recent insecurities. This call to action follows an alarming attack on a security guard at the ACK St. Marks Buchenya parish on Tuesday night.

The victim, Francis Were, sustained severe injuries from both sharp and blunt objects during the assault and is currently receiving treatment at Butere County Hospital after undergoing a medical evaluation at the county referral facility.

Bishop Okeno condemned the attack and emphasized the importance of community collaboration with law enforcement to address the ongoing security challenges.

Speaking to GGTV after visiting Mr. Were at the hospital and subsequently following up at the Butere police station, she stated, “Ensuring a secure environment is not solely the responsibility of security agencies; the entire community must play a role.”

Her sentiments were echoed by the Archdeacon of Buchenya, Ven. Daniel Inyangala, whose residence was also targeted in the attack. He urged the church congregation to remain calm and to continue praying for the swift recovery of the injured guard.
