The ACK Diocese of Butere has successfully distributed over 200 bags of ten-kilogram top-dressing fertilizer to widows in the community. This initiative aims to support these women in enhancing their agricultural yields during the current planting season.
Josephine Mombo, the Diocesan Women’s Ministry Coordinator, emphasized the importance of adhering to proper application guidelines to ensure optimal results from the fertilizer. During the distribution event held on Monday at ACK St. Luke’s Cathedral in Butere, she highlighted that the recipients were selected based on their challenging economic circumstances.
Mrs. Mombo also expressed her gratitude to the Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, the fourth Diocesan Bishop, for her efforts in collaborating with the Kakamega county’s woman representative to secure the fertilizer for the widows, with each woman receiving a ten-kilogram bag.
This program is part of the Diocese’s broader strategy to empower widows through agricultural initiatives. Notably, this distribution follows a recent project in which over 200 widows received chickens as part of a poultry rearing initiative, further supporting their livelihoods and fostering self-sufficiency.
