The ACK Diocese of Butere is preparing for the official launching of the ‘Unboxing the Law in Butere’ report on research conducted in the diocese last year by Jurorbox and AICMAR on their behalf.
This will be a transformative initiative designed to provide practical legal knowledge and empowerment to the community—especially those who suffer injustices as they do not know to whom they can turn.
The report is scheduled to be launched on August 15, 2025, in ACK St. Luke’s Cathedral compound.
Dissi Obanda of Jurorbox, (our legal consultants for the project) announced activities that will precede the report’s launch. These include a free legal aid clinic and also a workshop for pastors facilitated by several senior lawyers.
During the inaugural meeting of the ‘Unboxing the Law in Butere’ planning committee, held on May 14, 2025, Ms. Obanda emphasized the report’s objective: to educate the community about their legal rights and promote equitable access to justice.
The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, who attended the meeting, underscored the importance of embracing knowledge and the potential consequences of neglecting it drawing her inspiration from Hosea 4:6.
The ‘Unboxing the Law in Butere’ launch committee, which includes the Diocesan Bishop, is chaired by James Amukhale, the Vice Chair of the Synod. Other committee members are Lilian Pessa, Lay Secretary of the Synod, Lay Canon Grace Namai and the Very Rev. Moses Omoke, Provost. Other members are Rev. Capt. Florence Aseka, Fran Etemesi, Rhoda Bweya, Juliet Isanda, Fredrick Akali, Simon Namayi, Joyner Ribo, Rose Luvembe and Rodgers Chite.
This initiative represents a significant step toward enhancing legal literacy and empowerment within the Butere community and equipping ministers to serve the deep needs of the oppressed and voiceless.
