Over seventy widows in the ACK Diocese of Butere have completed a training program focused on poultry production. These women, eager to learn and passionate about poultry rearing, were instructed on the best practices for poultry housing, feeding programs, and vaccination processes to enhance their rearing skills.
During the training session at ACK St. Luke’s Cathedral on Thursday, Sospeter Nyabola, the Anglican Development Services Western Region Field Officer, emphasized that the poultry rearing project aims to empower widows by providing them with an income-generating opportunity. He added that this initiative aligns with the Diocesan vision of a transformed Christian community responding to needs in society.
In addition to learning about poultry care, the widows were educated on pest and disease control measures. Juliet Isanda, the Diocesan Bishop’s Personal Assistant, stressed the importance of training widows before they receive chicks to ensure successful rearing.

Rev. Emily Metta delivered a sermon to the widows, urging them to make the most of the project and multiply its benefits. Drawing inspiration from the book of Matthew 25:14-30, she highlighted the importance of being accountable for the talents and resources entrusted to us by God.
In the near future, more than 750 chicks will be distributed to the widows, further supporting their journey towards economic independence and improved livelihoods.
