ACK Diocese of Butere female clergy, led by The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno (Right), was joined by Women’s ministry leadership to issue a statement calling for action and raising awareness about gender-based violence.

The female clergy fellowship of the ACK Diocese of Butere has issued a powerful call to action for all individuals to come together and raise awareness about gender-based violence, as well as advocate for its eradication.

Led by The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, the female clergy called for women to boldly speak out against abuse and champion gender equality in all aspects of society.

Bishop Okeno emphasized the pivotal role that women can play in this crucial campaign by approaching the issue from a spiritual perspective and using their platforms to amplify messages of equality, compassion, and justice.

This call to action was made during a diocesan female clergy fellowship hosted by Bishop Okeno at the Bishops Bourne on Monday, November 25, 2024, marking the beginning of the annual sixteen days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

This campaign runs from November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10th, International Human Rights Day.

The determined, tough-speaking clergy issued a strong statement, encouraging female clergy to leverage their positions within their faith communities to educate others on the importance of respecting women and promoting a culture of non-violence.

The current femicide in Kenya was a major concern, and the female clergy in Butere strongly condemned it, calling on the government to take responsibility. Together, these women leaders are paving the way for a more just and equitable society.
