Five Reverends in the ACK diocese of Butere have received a cow each to enable them to improve their economic status.

Bishop Rose Okeno said the diocesan One Cow initiative is a program aimed at improving the livelihoods of the members of the clergy in the diocese.

Speaking during the handover ceremony to the beneficiaries of the program at ACK St. Luke’s Cathedral in Butere, Rt. Rev. Okeno encouraged them to be responsible for the Ayrshire breed cattle to enable other members of the clergy to benefit from the program.

“Our prayer is that this beginning will culminate into a much bigger support program for clergy in the diocese,” noted the bishop.

Rt. Rev. Okeno appreciated the efforts by the clergy in the ministry hoping that the program will grow to assist more members.

“We appreciate how difficult it is doing ministry sometimes without a stipend. Like in our case we go without a stipend for almost six months. If this cow is well taken care of it will empower our clergy economically to support our families,” she added.

Bishop Rose Okeno conducts small handover service of the Ayrshire cattle breed to the five beneficiaries.

The first group of clergies to receive the cows are Rev. Geoffrey Opembe of Eshinamwenyuli parish, Rev. Jane Orembe of Namasoli parish, Rev. Ephelly Owiye, Rev. Everlyne Opanda, and Rev. Emily Mettah.

The program is a result of the relationship between Rt. Rev. Okeno and the Diocese of Idaho in the USA.

Special thanks to bishop Jos and all our brothers and sisters in the Idaho diocese for this generous support.
