The Anglican church of Kenya Butere diocese bishop Rose Okeno has challenged the church’s lay readers and evangelists to use their authority in spreading the gospel and reaching the non-believers.
Rt. Rev. Rose said the lay readers and evangelists have been commissioned by the episcopal authority to perform Christian outreach ministry in promoting the diocese’s mission in the gospel of Christ and there is a need to reach many souls as they convert them to Christ Jesus.
“You have a big role of proclaiming, renewing, and discpling as you carefully build on the laid down foundation. Reach to many people as possible as you focus on Jesus Christ”, said Rt. Rev. Rose.
In her sermon during a service on Thursday afternoon at ACK St. Stephen’s Mulwanda parish in Khwisero sub-county during the affirmation and renewal of lay readers and evangelists’ licenses, the bishop preached on love and hope and asked them to be the carriers of the word.
In addition, Rt. Rev. Rose acknowledged the support by the two sets of ministers in the running of the Anglican church services encouraging them to stick to episcopal and liturgical worship with emphasis within Anglicanism.
Her sentiments were echoed by Ven. Canon Peter Andere who fully backed the lay readers and evangelists in their mission to spread the gospel of Christ.
“I am confident that our Anglicanism traditions will be maintained as we strive for God’s missionary work. We have trained approximately 250 evangelists and lay readers in a two-day workshop with our main theme focus on 1 Cor 3:10 and I believe the ministry will grow”, said Ven. Canon Andere.
The two-day training brought together participants from the deaneries of Mulwanda, Namasoli, and Shiraha.
