New dawn at Butere Diocese as Mothers Union usher in New Leadership

The ACK Butere diocese Mothers Union elected new leadership that will steer mothers’ affairs for the next two years.

In the election that was conducted on Thursday 6 June 2024 during the annual general meeting at ACK St. Lukes Cathedral Butere, Selfa Nasengo of ACK Shitswitswi parish was elected unopposed to head the Mothers Union. Nasengo succeeds Lydia Aduyu of ACK Khwisero parish who served two terms.

Nasengo will be assisted by Roselyne Sakwa who was elected to be the Union’s vice chair, a position previously held by Alice Anyembe of ACK Buchenya parish.

In the secretary’s position, Janet Oyondi of ACK Namasoli parish was given the mandate by the Union to succeed Judith Sakwa of ACK Shitsitswi parish.

Treasurer’s position was clinched by Phaustine Omulindi of ACK Mulwanda parish succeeding Judith Osore of ACK Elukaka parish.

Speaking to Diocesan News Team, the new leadership pledged to increase the Mothers Union membership by mobilizing women within the diocese to join the gospel ministry.

“We want all the women in this diocese to join hands in the gospel. This is the only way we shall have strong families”, said Nasengo.

Nasengo urged the M.U members to be role models in order to inspire the community for a positive change.

On her part, the new secretary Janet Oyondi praised the Anglican church mothers for their resilience urging them to spread and inspire love and hope in the community.

“Mothers have been very supportive in the mission and my vision is to realize the projects started by the outgoing women leadership. We have a plot a plot at Emaondo village we shall work hard to build rentals that will be a source of income for the diocese as well as provide affordable houses to students residing in the area”, pledged Oyondi.

The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno who was present during the AGM urged the Mothers Union members to be active in ministry and transform the Christian community through preaching and nurturing more young mothers.

The bishop of ACK Butere diocese praised the outgoing office for their support in women ministry while urging the new leadership to serve as they respond to the needs in the society.
