In a heartwarming collaboration, the Diocese of Butere, in partnership with the County governments of Kakamega and Kisumu, along with Done Amolo Memorial Kids Ark, hosted โ€œSickle Cell Awareness Dayโ€ at St. Lukeโ€™s Cathedral grounds. The event, inaugurated by the Diocesan Bishop, was graced by the presence of Her Excellency Dorothy Nyongโ€™o, the First Lady of Kisumu County, and Her Excellency Prof Janet Kassily Barasa, the First Lady of Kakamega County. It featured a crucial blood donation exercise, with community members generously giving the gift of life to support over 100 sickle cell patients in Khwisero and Butere sub-counties. Informative sessions and touching personal stories shed light on the challenges of sickle cell disease, fostering community understanding and unity. This event not only raised awareness but also created a lasting network of support, proving that together, a community can be a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable among them.
